Welcome to the College of Science

The College of Science prepares undergraduate and graduate students for careers in the natural and physical sciences, mathematics, computer science, engineering, and technology. The College is committed to nurturing the talents of young scientists by immersing students in a robust curriculum and applied learning experiences in laboratory research, field study, and cutting edge technology.

With our nationally recognized research programs and a strong emphasis on teaching, our faculty helps prepare students for advanced professional training and graduate school. A unique feature of our undergraduate program is the opportunity for serious students to work closely with faculty members on current public and privately funded research projects. Such involvement often leads to scholarly publications and interest in graduate studies.

Composed of 185 faculty in six departments and the new Bruce and Gloria Ingram School of Engineering, the College of Science offers a broad spectrum of educational resources, cross-disciplinary training, and career preparedness for our majors.

Reconciling the tides of history Julius Caesar landed an invasion fleet on the shores of Britain in 55 B.C., expanding the boundaries of the so-called “Known World” and inadvertently sparking a dispute between historians and scientists for centuries to come. Now, a team of astronomers from Texas State University-San Marcos has applied their unique brand of forensic astronomy to the enduring controversy surrounding the precise location of Caesar’s landfall, concluding that the historically accepted date for the event--Aug. 26-27, 55 B.C.--is incorrect.  (more)
